How the StarCaster® Text-To-Speech System Works

The StarCaster® Text-To-Speech System is a PC-based, award-winning software system that offers a fully automated, superior quality text-to-speech capability. This highly interactive system is designed to meet the particular needs of agencies and corporations that provide timely information to the public via telephone or radio broadcast. StarCaster offers a cost-effective automated solution for any information provider, while allowing users easy access to the critical information they require.

The StarCaster® Text-To-Speech System uses a "speech concatenation" process to automatically convert text information into a natural voice for transmission. Expertly encoded and edited words and phrases are stored in a vocabulary database, along with linguistic rules for text parsing and message generation. To create the message on demand, the rules and information are automatically accessed and the words and phrases are concatenated to produce a smooth stream of speech that sounds like the message was just spoken.

Our expertise in the selection of the words and phrases that make up the database, and in the development of the linguistic rules, result in a system that can generate highly variable topical messages, either from text that has been entered by the operator, or from coded information that has been automatically accessed from an external source. This process avoids the typical "robot-like" quality that is produced by other text-to-speech synthesis systems, and which is not suitable for high-profile applications.
