President and CEO

Craig Dickson, M.A. Linguistics

In 1983, Craig led the establishment of STR’s predecessor, the Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR) at the University of Victoria (UVic). In 1989, STR was established as a private corporation under Craig’s direction, with a mandate to develop speech analysis and synthesis tools for commercial applications. Craig has since led the company to become a recognized developer of Text-to-Speech products and solutions. In addition to his corporate career, Craig taught courses in acoustic and instrumental phonetics at the University of Victoria. He has held an adjunct position at UVic since 1986. Craig is a member of VIATEC, ACETECH, ATCA, CANSO and the International Phonetic Association.

Stephen Eady, Ph.D. Linguistics

Steve has been a leader in the STR team since becoming involved with STR’s predecessor, the Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR), to engage in Text-to-Speech research. Steve has over 30 years of experience in the development of STR’s aviation broadcast systems, which are used in Air Traffic Control Towers and Flight Service Stations around the world. In particular, he has been responsible for the design, development and deployment of the StarCaster® system. Steve’s voice has been used in STR products for over 20 years. Before STR, Steve was a research scientist at the University of Iowa. Steve is a member of ATCA and CANSO.

Systems Atlanta Inc. (SAI)

STR-SpeechTech has partnered with Systems Atlanta Inc. for the distribution of our StarCaster® ATIS and StarCaster® RIS systems. In conjunction with SAI’s IDS5 system, our StarCaster® ATIS has been accredited for use in the U.S. Air Force and Army.

Note: StarCaster® versions 4.3.1 and 5.x are the only versions compatible for use with the US Air Force’s Airfield Automation System (AFAS) as well as the US Army’s Airfield Automation System (AAAS).

Rockwell Collins (ARINC)

Rockwell Collins, which acquired ARINC in December 2013, is actively involved in marketing the StarCaster® ATIS product into the international aviation community. Rockwell Collins is a pioneer in the development of innovative communication and aviation electronic and information management solutions for commercial and government applications, and provides its ARINC data link interface to the StarCaster® ATIS system.
