Data-Link Connection to StarCaster ATIS Now Available as a Single Cost-Effective Solution
VICTORIA, BC, Canada – January 10, 2012 – STR-SpeechTech Ltd. (STR) is proud to announce that we have entered into a Reseller Agreement with ARINC Incorporated, providing STR the opportunity to market and distribute ARINC’s new D-ATIS Link™1 software client as a part of STR’s StarCaster ATIS®2 product line.
StarCaster ATIS is used by air traffic controllers throughout the world to rapidly create Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS) broadcasts in a clear and consistent voice. While these broadcasts are available to pilots via VHF radio, the new D-ATIS Link option also makes a Data-Link version of the ATIS text available. Operating as a client on the StarCaster ATIS computer, D-ATIS Link automatically accesses the current ATIS text, and transmits it by secure network connection to ARINC’s Data-Link Server in Annapolis, Maryland. From there, the ATIS text is uplinked to ACARS-equipped aircraft in response to a request from the aircraft, thus providing two reliable methods for pilots to access the ATIS information.
With STR-SpeechTech and ARINC working together to provide an efficient Digital ATIS solution, ATC personnel can be confident that arriving and departing aircraft have ready access to the most recent ATIS information. Previous Data-Link systems have been expensive to implement, but providing the service over a secure network connection is a much more cost-effective solution. Craig Dickson, President and CEO of STR-SpeechTech states, “ARINC’s Data-Link technology is the most advanced available. The opportunity to work with ARINC to include an efficient method of transferring StarCaster ATIS text to ACARS-equipped aircraft has created a win for all involved.”

StarCaster ATIS now on the U.S. Air Force Approved Products List
VICTORIA, BC, Canada – November 29, 2011 – After extensive evaluation, the U.S. Air Force has accepted STR-SpeechTech’s StarCaster® ATIS version 5 for inclusion on the Air Force Evaluated/Approved Products List (E/APL).
The StarCaster ATIS system is a software and hardware solution that provides air traffic controllers with a way to rapidly generate clear and consistent Automatic Terminal Information Service broadcasts in a natural human voice. Unlike other products that require the controller break for up to 5 minutes to make a manual ATIS recording, StarCaster ATIS is used to create the broadcast in about 30 seconds.
With its acceptance by the Air Force Certification and Accreditation Program, managers of Air Traffic Control Towers at USAF bases may now easily obtain or update their StarCaster ATIS software and equipment. One Captain of USAF Airfield Operations reports, “The StarCaster digital ATIS system is highly reliable; we never have problems using StarCaster ATIS and it never fails.” Currently installed at over 50 U.S. Air Force and 30 U.S. Army sites, STR’s ATIS technology is fast becoming a U.S. military standard.
