STR-SpeechTech (STR) Ltd. has built its reputation by designing and delivering practical, professional products for speech technology applications. We develop software systems for digital processing of audio signals and processes for generating high-quality speech output including speech analysis and synthesis.

Located in Victoria, BC, Canada, STR has been involved in the development and refinement of speech and signal processing including speech synthesis and speech concatenation systems for over 20 years.

STR has continued to research and develop processes in the field of text-to-speech technology, and we have focussed our efforts on providing the highest quality text-to-speech capability offered world-wide. We have expanded our markets to address the needs of a number of industries where it is critical that the automated broadcast of information sounds as clear and natural as the human voice.

Beginning in 1983, STR existed as a non-profit society and operated under the name Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR). CSTR was located at the University of Victoria in Victoria, B.C. Canada. Technologies developed at CSTR encouraged the organization to offer marketable solutions in the work they were doing, and in 1989 STR was incorporated as a private corporation where they continue to operate in Victoria.

STR has a proven track record in applied scientific research and system design. Years of academic and professional experience in research and development, and constant attention to the most recent advances in computer technology, have earned the company an international reputation for excellence in its field. Our team has extensive professional experience in acoustics, applied linguistics, computer science, digital signal processing, mathematics, phonetics and psychology, making STR the world leader in many speech technology areas.
