STR's Text-to-Speech System Wins Contracts and Award Nominations
Victoria, BC, Spring 2004 - STR's StarCaster® Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology continues to meet with huge success and support, starting off 2004 with 2 new contracts and a nomination for a prestigious innovation award in international aviation.
STR was awarded a contract with the US FAA to provide a system that automatically generates TWEB forecasts, which provides pilots with a continuous broadcast of weather information. The cost-effective StarCaster TWEB system, which uses STR's TTS technology, will replace the existing labor-intensive manually-recorded system. STR has also been awarded a contract with DND Canada to provide an automated VOLMET System (an international broadcast of aviation weather to aircraft approaching the Atlantic Seaboard) at CFB Trenton, using StarCaster technology. STR was nominated for the Innovation Award at ATC Maastricht, the world's leading Air Traffic Control Conference. STR was nominated for their StarCaster ATIS system, which allows ATC personnel to automatically create, monitor and broadcast weather and airport information to pilots.
